A Monarch butterfly in Mexico (2017)

Synopsis
Nélida fled Colombia after her father and siblings were assassinated by paramilitary forces. In Mexico, she rebuilt her life and raised her family while joining networks of women victims of displacement. Through theater, she found a space for healing, community building, and raising awareness about the realities of forced migration and violence.

Context
Produced for Red de Víctimas Colombianas por la Paz Latinoamérica y el Caribe, the series Memorias desde el exilio (Memories from Exile) documents the experiences of survivors of Colombia’s armed conflict who were forced to leave their country but remain politically active in the peacebuilding process. Through intimate interviews with Nélida, Jota, and Margarita, the project explores how exile shapes identity, activism, and the ongoing struggle to ensure that victims’ voices remain part of Colombia’s path toward peace.
