Audiovisual Stories: Memory Construction of Armed Conflict and Reintegration into Civilian Life in Nuevo Horizonte, Petén, Guatemala.

Guatemala’s armed conflict ended with the 1996 Peace Accords after thirty-six years of violence and displacement. Former FAR combatants founded the Nuevo Horizonte Cooperative in Petén in 1998, seeking reintegration through collective land use. Memory-making became central to identity-building, drawing on past struggles to shape a civilian future. This study examines these processes, focusing on photography and audiovisual media as tools in constructing collective memory.
