Synopsis
Nélida’s father and brothers were killed by a paramilitary group in 1996. Forced to flee, she sought international protection in Mexico. Once safe, she joined a group of migrant women known as the Monarchs. Together, they created a space for healing, community building, and raising awareness about the realities of forced migration and violence.
Context
Produced for Red de Víctimas Colombianas por la Paz Latinoamérica y el Caribe, the series Memorias desde el exilio (Memories from Exile) documents the experiences of survivors of Colombia’s armed conflict who were forced to leave their country but remain politically active in the peacebuilding process. Through intimate interviews with Nélida, Jota, and Margarita, the project explores how exile shapes identity, activism, and the ongoing struggle to ensure that victims’ voices remain part of Colombia’s path toward peace.
